Brief BiographyI grew up in England and moved to the U.S. in 1978. I hold a master's degree in Systems Science (specializing in Advanced Technology and earning an Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement) from Binghamton University in upstate New York. I hold an undergraduate degree in Fine Art from Sheffield College of Art, Sheffield, England. I have twelve years experience teaching computer science courses, both full-time and part-time, with a focus on online courses. I also have extensive practical experience in the use of technology for learning, having worked at IBM as a short-course developer, NC State University as an Instructional Coordinator and Coordinator of Academic Computing, and the University of North Carolina system as the first Executive Director of the UNC Teaching and Learning with Technology Collaborative, serving the sixteen universities of the North Carolina system. As a programmer, I have developed numerous applications that include research/reporting tools, learning objects, and Web/database applications. Before moving into technology, I was involved in the arts in various capacities: as co-founder of Yorkshire Art Space, director of the Oswego Art Association, and exhibition designer for the Binghamton University Art Museum. I have a background in fine art and continue to paint and draw with a focus on landscapes.
