Craft History: Online Lookup Resource (Web/database)
Screenshot of Craft History Web siteThis Web site provides an extensive online resource in support of the textbook: 20th Century American Studio Craft, by Janet Koplos and Bruce Metcalf. Students can view and download reference materials, search on artworks, use a Flash-based magnifier, etc. Instructors can access sample syllabi and learning activities.
General Purpose Application: Image Viewer and Magnifier
Screenshot of Image Viewer and MagnifierThe Flash-based Image Viewer and Magnifier allows students and instructors browse and view any collection of high-resolution images, read image descriptions, and magnify the images in order to observe, locate, or identify significant details. The instructor can quickly and easily associate a set of images and descriptions with the viewer to create a targeted learning object. Once created, copies of the viewer and image collection can be: distributed to students (disk, e-mail, download); used to present and explore images in a lecture setting; published on a course Web site; or shared with peers.
Textbook: A Web-based Introduction to Programming
Image of textbook coverFounded on well-defined learning outcomes and assessments, this textbook comes with a fully functioning but standalone Apache Web server that installs in minutes and allows students to develop working Web aplications with no need for Internet access. Short chapters allow students to build their understanding one concept at a time using numerous examples. Learning activities include fixit, modify, and codecompletion exercises that build confidence and understanding in a step-by-step manner. Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Programming Tutorials for Beginners (Flash)
Screenshot of Flash ApplicationThis Flash-based interactive learning object helps beginning programmers learn basic operations and control structures. Students can walk through code samples, one instruction at a time, and watch the effect of each instruction on variables, tests and output. The application can be freely downloaded and distributed (however the application may not be changed, and copyright remains with the author).
